Following fruitless discussions with the Australian and regional governments regarding bailouts totaling AU$1.4 billion (~US$892 million), it looks like Virgin Australia is heading for voluntary administration if reports in Australia are to be believed. The airline's board of directors met on Monday night (AEST) and, following discussions, it is believed that Deloitte is being called in to oversee the administration process.
Virgin Australia is currently in the process of moving around its Boeing 777-300ER fleet to allow the airline to resume service on the Melbourne - Los Angeles route and it looks like its Sydney - Abu Dhabi route is taking the fall. While this may not appear to be a major change (and it isn't) it could still be a nice boost for travelers hoping to use AAdvantage Miles between the Europe/Middle East and Australia.
Virgin Australia has announced that the it intends to start up service between Melbourne and Los Angeles from Spring 2017...and that should be great news for flyers. As things stand the Melbourne - Los Angeles route is only served by Qantas and United so the arrival of Virgin Australia should help shake things up a little.

On sale from today, 17 May, Economy Space Plus is Virgin Australia's version of United Airlines' Economy Plus and American Airlines' Main Cabin Extra in that it isn't a new cabin on the aircraft (they already have 3 of those on their 777-300ERs) but rather a dedicated set of seats within the Economy Class cabin that come with a few extra benefits.
