Hilton appears to be first of the major hotels chains to publish a new promotion for next year and while it’s not a promotion that’s going to blow anyone away, it’s a promotion that’s could still earn a Hilton fan a decent number of points in the first four months of 2023.
Earn double points (+ bonus points) with Hilton
Between 1 January and 30 April 2023, Hilton Honors members can earn double points on every stay they complete as well as earning 1,000 bonus points each time they stay at a different Hilton brand.
- Offer valid for stays completed January 1 – April 30, 2023 (“Promotion period”) at any hotel or resort within the Hilton Portfolio.
- Hilton Honors™ members must first register at HiltonHonors.com/DoubleUpAndExplore prior to completing a stay within the Promotion period.
- Registered Hilton Honors members checking in before January 1, 2023, will receive Bonus Points for their stay if the stay is completed on or after January 1, 2023, and prior to or on April 30, 2023.
- Registered Hilton Honors members will earn Double Points per stay during the Promotion period. “Double Points” means members will receive Bonus Points equal to the number of Base Points earned during a stay.
- Registered Hilton Honors members will earn an additional 1,000 Bonus Points each time they stay at a new brand within the Hilton portfolio during the Promotion period.
- There is no limit to the total number of Bonus Points that may be earned during the Promotion period with this offer.
- Bonus Points do not count toward elite tier qualification.
- Please allow six to eight weeks from completion of your stay for Bonus Points to appear in your account.
- A ‘stay’ is defined as the total number of consecutive nights spent at the same hotel, whether or not a guest checks out and checks back in again.
Thoughts
The first thing to stress is that you have to register to earn double base points and/or the new brand bonus. Any stays made prior to registration will not earn the bous points this promotion is offering.
The second thing to stress is that a stay has to end on/by 30 April 2023 to count towards this promotion. If you’re planning on booking a stay that overlaps 30 April 2023 it may be worth considering moving hotels on that date if the number of points you’d earn in the promotion makes it worthwhile.
Other than that very minor inconvenience, the news here is generally good:
- All Hilton properties worldwide are participating
- If you check-in before the start of the promotion, but check out after the start date you’ll earn doublempoints on your whole stay.
This may not sound like the most exciting of promotion (because it’s not) but it can still offer a path to earning a good number of Hilton Honors points in the first four months of next year.
At the higher end, a Diamond member spending $600 on their first a stay at a full-service property and paying with a Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card would earn a total of 27,400 points for their stay:
- 6,000 base points (at 10 points/dollar)
- 6,000 elite Points (100% bonus for being a top-tier elite)
- 8,400 points from their credit card (14 points/dollar)
- 6,000 bonus points from the double points part of the promotion
- 1,000 bonus points from the new brand bonus part of the promotion
A little lower down, a mid-tier Gold member spending $600 on their first stay at a full-service property and choosing to pay with a Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card would earn 25,000 points for their stay:
- 6,000 base points (at 10 points/dollar)
- 4,800 elite points (80% bonus for holding Gold elite status)
- 7,200 points from their credit card (12 points/dollar)
- 6,000 bonus points from the double points part of the promotion
- 1,000 bonus points from the new brand bonus part of the promotion
As I value Hilton points at 0.4 cents each (based on the value that I know I can get out of them with relative ease), 27,400 points and 25,000 points represent effective rebates of $110 and $100 respectively. That’s pretty good going considering Diamond elite status and Gold elite status aren’t particulalry hard to come by if you have access to US-issued credit cards.
Bottom line
Whether or not you think you’ll be staying at a Hilton property in the first four months of next year, you should be registering for this promotion. Plans change and you never know when you’ll find yourself unexpectedly at a Hilton property and it would be a shame to leave a stack of points on the table just because you didn’t take a few seconds to register in advance of your stay.
Overall, this isn’t a promotion that’s likely to change anyone’s plans, but it is one in which it’s easy to pick up a good number of points with little to no effort.
